Srinagar is also known as the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. The city is situated on the banks of Jhelum River and is approximately 294 km from Jammu. Tourism is a high point of the city as there are many beautiful parks, gardens and lake which attracts foreign as well as domestic tourists. Some of the famous sightseeing points are Dal Lake, Chashma Shahi, Nishat Bagh, Shalimar Bagh, Shankracharya Temple etc. The best time to visit Srinagar is between March to August as the weather remains moderate. Srinagar witnesses snow fall in the month of January and February. Usually the temperature on a very cold night ranges between -6 degree Celsius and zero degree Celsius while the day’s temperature renders from 3 degree Celsius to 10 degree Celsius.
There are several tours packages available for Srinagar under different budget range. If you are visiting during off season, it would be as less as Rs 5,000 per person while during peak season, it can go up to Rs 20,000 per person. There are no direct trains to Srinagar but direct flights from Delhi to Srinagar are available. Alternatively, cabs and taxis are also available from Jammu to Srinagar that charges Rs 200- 500 per person. These are available just outside Jammutawi railway station.
